As Rockets fans impatiently wait for their team to play like they know they can, all sorts of questions are popping out of the wood-work. Will Yao stay in one piece? Is Ish's set-up ability more effective than Aaron's ability to score? Will Hill see the minutes he should get? But, for me, the most important question I will inevitably see answered tonight is "Will the Rockets dig deep inside of their souls and pull out a victory?" Somewhere along the way the Rockets, who were generously ranked as high as ninth in the power rankings, forgot how to play winning basketball. All the expectations Houston once had is gradually being thrown out the window with every loss.
As for Yao Ming, it's beginning to look more and more that this is the final year in his short, injury-plagued career. I have to admit it's really tough to watch yet too intriguing to turn away. Who would have expected this poor start? Nobody in Houston. None of the so-called experts. Daryl Morey is not the kind of GM who would sit idly by and let two trains collide. Yes, the General Manager will be firing his canons at the Nuggets for Carmelo, and Ish Smith is making it easier to push more chips into the pot.
But all that is worst case scenario stuff. Frankly, there is way too much season left to even talk like that, right? A win tonight would ease fans slightly off the "panic button." A short-handed victory against a young, hot shooting team on the road would instill some kind of hope to this frightening season.
This team will be alright. Go Rockets!
